This is the current status page for Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Steam. The base game is still pre-release as of 2026-08-09 UTC, while a separate Demo AppID 3974650 is available. The page records the source and scope of each announcement so a player can tell a release-date update, a demo notice, a troubleshooting post and a future patch apart. It does not infer a version number or maintenance cadence from silence.
Product and demo boundary
AppID 2638890 is the base product. AppID 3974650 is the standalone Demo linked from the official Steam Community hub. The hub states that the demo differs from the full game and that demo save data cannot continue the base-game run, although a save can qualify for a Kubi Akari charm in the full game. A demo patch or troubleshooting fix must therefore name the demo app rather than changing the base-game status.
This distinction also applies to search snippets and community discussions. A player may say “the game” while describing the trial. The Updates page should translate that shorthand into a typed record: product, platform, date, source, version if public, and whether the notice changes player action.
Latest official date signal
The official Steam Community hub currently presents a publisher/developer release-date update that says the launch was brought forward to Friday, September 4, 2026. The current US-facing Steam HTML snapshot displayed Sep 3, 2026, which is a timezone or regional display issue to watch rather than a reason to choose one date silently. The earlier Capcom announcement said September 25, 2026; it remains useful for historical provenance but is not the newest official Steam notice.
When writing the date in another locale, retain the original source wording and check the reader’s region. Do not calculate a countdown from a page whose timezone is unknown. A release-status page is successful when it tells the reader which official surface to check next.
Demo and announcement history
Capcom’s June announcement introduced the playable Demo and described a slice featuring swordplay and Sasaki Ganryu. The PlayStation announcement described about 30 minutes of early story, the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage, Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armament and soul absorption. It also said that progress does not carry to the full game, while a qualifying save can award the Kubi Akari charm.
The Steam Community hub later added a troubleshooting announcement for the demo. That post is an operational support source, not a base-game patch note. Link any fix to the exact notice and preserve the English-only limitation if the source says one. Community comments can identify symptoms but do not automatically establish an official fix.
What is not a version label
Do not present a SteamDB BuildID, a page timestamp, a trailer date or a competitor’s “updated” label as the public game version. Do not infer Early Access, abandonment, a roadmap or a patch cadence when the official surfaces do not say so. The base game has no safely established public semantic version label in this audit.
If a later official patch appears, add its date, title, AppID, public version, branch and platform scope. Link the affected evergreen guide and explain whether the change affects the demo, base game or an edition. Leave old release announcements intact so readers can understand why a previous date or system note changed.
Maintenance checklist
At each update check, open the Steam Store page, Steam Community announcement list and the publisher source. Compare the displayed date, product relationship, demo status, current official troubleshooting and any visible public version. Record the UTC check time. Then search the site for the affected claim, update the canonical page and add a short source note rather than copying an entire announcement.
Use a timeline entry only when it changes a player decision or establishes an official milestone. A release-date update changes when a player should expect the base game. A demo notice changes where a player downloads or tests. A troubleshooting announcement changes the next diagnostic step. A community comment about a possible balance issue belongs in evidence notes until a patch or official response confirms it.
For every future entry, store the headline, publication date, author or publisher, source URL, AppID, platform, public version if stated, and a one-sentence effect on the guide. If a later notice contradicts an earlier date, keep both with their dates and explain which one is current. Never delete history just to make the homepage look simpler.
The maintenance owner should also check old prose for stale date language, demo/base-game mixing and claims that a save carries forward. Search by AppID and by the named feature, not only by the announcement title. A patch can change a combat page or a technical page without changing the release-status headline.
This page is the canonical date checkpoint for the site and its multilingual release-status translations.
